Tea Seller Uses Google Maps to Identify And Rob Houses in Hyderabad, Arrested

Google Maps has surely made travelling simpler and changed the way we go to unknown places. But the facets of technology are many and it comes with disadvantages too. The Cyberabad police on Friday arrested a house burglar who used Google Maps to identify villas and rob them. The accused, identified as Manjula Chandrashekar alias Chandu has allegedly carried out more than 14 such robberies. The police recovered stolen goods worth Rs 3 lakh from him including seven tolas of gold ornament, four watches and eight cell phones.

The police said the man would identify houses using Google Maps before entering through windows or doors. The News Minute quoted a policeman as saying, "The teams had made sustained efforts and collected relevant information about the movements of the accused and intercepted him on June 14 under the limits of Narsingi near Royal function hall, when he was in possession of a bag containing one kg of ganja."

He robbed houses in Khammam, Guntur, Tirupati, Tiruchanur, PM Palem and Vizag. The accused said he is a tea seller by profession. The police in a press release said, "The accused is a native of Dharmavaram Town in Andhra Pradesh's Ananthapur District. He is addicted to vices like consuming of alcohol and smoking of cigarettes by mixing cannabis. He studied up to Class 7 and later he learnt how to repair TVs at his native place."

The police said that after committing crimes in and around the area, he went to Hyderabad in 2009. He was also arrested and sent to jail, but continue to do the same once out of prison. The police said, "He did not change his attitude, even after coming out of jail. He was arrested in as many as 50 cases and Cyberabad Police booked him under PD Act in 2015 and sent him to Central Prison, Cherlapally. In 2016, he was released from jail, and again he started committing offences."
