Seeing the havoc that wrecked Kerala earlier this month, a 12-year-old girl from Tamil Nadu donated a part from her surgery money to flood relief. Akshaya who hails from Karur district had collected money for her heart operation through crowdfunding but she was moved by the disaster that people of Kerala were witnessing. After learning of her kind and heartful contribution, the Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences and Technology (SCTIMST), in Thiruvananthapuram has offered to conduct her operation free of cost. Akshaya suffers from congenital heart disease and the surgery would cost Rs 2.5 lakhs. There are many such stories of contributions made to Kerala which will make you teary eyed. Similarly, a four-year-old girl from South Kolkata donated her piggy bank savings to the Kerala relief fund set up by the CPI(M). Aparajita Saha gave Rs 14,800 from the gifts she had received for her birthday to buy a CD player to rehearse her dance classes. She handed over the money to CPI(M) leader Biman Bose at the state party office in Kolkata.

Another story of piggy bank donation that got a lump in everyone's throat is that of eight-year-old Anupriya from Viluppuram district of Tamil Nadu. She had saved Rs 8,246, her father added some more to donate Rs 9,000 to Chief Minister's Disaster Relief Fund. After learning of the warm gesture by Hero Cycles, the company appreciated the girl and gifted her a cycle.
