An elderly couple of Tamil Nadu's Tirunelveli district gave a tough time to intruders who came to loot them. The incident took place on Sunday when the thieves attacked 70-year-old Shanmugavel. One of the robbers tried to choke him. In the meantime, Shanmugavel's wife came out running to save her husband.
Tirunelveli, August 12: An elderly couple of Tamil Nadu's Tirunelveli district gave a tough time to intruders who came to loot them. The incident took place on Sunday in Kalyanipuram village of Kadaiyam block. One of the robbers tried to choke 70-year-old Shanmugavel. In the meantime, Shanmugavel's wife came out running to save her husband. The couple then fought bravely with the thieves who were having knives and sickles. The elderly couple attacked the thieves with the plastic furniture in the yard. In the video, it could be seen that one of the robbers backed off quickly while the other kept threatening the couple with the sickle. Shanmugavel said that they were prepared to handle the situation like this. "We live in a farmhouse at the edge of the village and it is located very close to the forest. It is a five-acre land and we have been here for 40 years. We were acutely aware of the fact that we were susceptible to attacks from robbers because our house was isolated from the rest of the village," reported The News Minute quoting Shanmugave as saying. Tamil Nadu police filed an FIR in the case. However, the accused are yet to be arrested.
