Today marks the ninth year of celebration since its creation by the media company. Social media has paved way for global communication and changed the way businesses functioned. Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to Twitter sending greetings to his followers on Social Media Day. PM in his tweet congratulated his "young friends for their innovative usage of social media".

He also urged youngsters to continue expressing and discussing freely their opinions through the medium. Meanwhile, Congress took a jibe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Social Media Day. They tweeted a video against online trolls that go up to the extent of sending rape and death threats to people who try to question their stand.

With the hashtag #PrimeMinisterUnfollowTrolls, the tweet reads, "Tired of online trolls, the women (and a few men) of the Congress social media team have put together a video making a collective plea to the Prime Minister @narendramodi this Social Media Day.
