It is a day of festive celebrations for people of the Bengali community in India. Today marks the day of Mahalaya, which is a festival preceding another big festival of Durga Puja. Starting about a week in advance to Durga Pujo, this day is believed to be an invitation to Goddess Maa Durga to descend on the Earth. Any festive celebration is incomplete without passing on greetings for the day. Subho Mahalaya or Shubho Mahalaya, the common greetings for the festival are being shared on Twitter and other social media platforms. Imminent sand artist Sudarsan Pattnaik has also made a sand art to pass on the festive greetings of this auspicious. Besides several politicians have also given their warm greetings of Shubho Mahalya 2019 to everyone through their social handles. Primarily marked in the Eastern parts of the country, Mahalaya is celebrated with much enthusiasm as it a countdown to Durga Pujo. People wake up early, get ready, chant traditional prayers and bring in the festival in much fervour. There is a belief that on this day and invitation is made to the mother goddess to begin her journey from Kailash to her paternal home (Earth), along with her children. People eagerly wait for the Devi Aagman. On the day of Mahalaya 2019, people have also sent out their greetings and wishes to everyone on their social media.
