Pakistan beauty brand Olivia Intense has been in the news lately, for blatantly copying frame by frame Godrej Consumer Products (GCPL) BBLUNT's Indian commercial, featuring Kareena Kapoor. Reportedly, the ad was shown during the telecast of the Pakistan Super League. The Pakistani brand has mentioned on their website, that Olivia products are endorsed by famous Bollywood names as Bipasha Basu, Nargis Fakhri, Aditi Rao Hydari and Shruti Haasan.  Kareena Kapoor's name is not even mentioned among the list of Bollywood endorsers.

According to an article on Campaign India, commenting on the issue, Sunil Kataria, Business Head, India and SAARC, Godrej Consumer Products said, “We wish to clarify that GCPL has no business relationship with Maskatiya Industries Private Limited (Olivia cosmetics). It has been brought to our notice recently that Maskatiya Industries have copied the 'BBlunt Salon secret High Shine Crème hair colour' TVC. This seems to be a direct case of plagiarism and Godrej Consumer Products Limited condemn this act which infringes our copyrights over the said TVC. We shall be taking appropriate action against the same.”

The original ad has been done by Creativeland Asia agency in India. It is really shocking, how Olivia Intense has copied the entire commercial, including the celebrity who was roped in by BBLUNT in 2016. The only change which once can notice in the new commercial, is the replacement of the BBLUNT bottles with the Olivia Intense bottles.

GCPL had acquired a 30 percent stake in 2013 in the BBLUNT brand, the salon chain founded by Adhuna Bhabani. Reportedly, legal action will be taken against Maskatiya Industries, which owns Olivia. The ad is a shocking example of how brands can dare to plagiarize content, without thinking about the consequences.
