While people are recently engaged in eating raw meat or fish, there are some dangers associated with them, and the evidence of the same was reported in this incident. The 55-year-old was suffering from a loss of appetite, diarrhoea, fatigue and abdominal pain. The Hangzhou First People’s Hospital stated in its medical report that the man had been experiencing this for more than four months before he sought medical help. Revenge Served Cold! After the scans of the patient were out, doctors were left stunned. The scans showed the left lobe of his liver was occupied by a pus-filled sac measuring 19 cm long and 18 cm wide, as mentioned in various media outlets. The tumours had started growing on the walls of the sac. After several tests, he was diagnosed with clonorchiasis, an infection caused by parasitic flatworms. To save his life, doctors reduced its size by half. But there was no progress in his health as the tumours remained on the liver for three weeks after the first procedure.

The surgeons hence removed the infected section of the liver. They found numerous light-bulb shaped eggs in the dead tissue. It was then when the patient informed the doctors that he ate raw fish in his hometown. The surgeons believe that the fish was ridden with the flatworms, which hatched eggs in the man’s liver. This, once again, raised the debate of whether we should be eating undercooked meat and fish or not.
