Researchers believe Hawaiian monk seals don't seem to smart enough as they got eels stuck up their noses. They would have probably got it while thrusting their faces into rock cracks, but the actual reason for the rare occurrence is not sure. Photo of one such nosy eel was shared on the Facebook page by Hawaiian Monk Seal Research Program. The picture went viral with social media users laughing at the unfortunate seals. In 2016, the program had reported a similar 'eel-in-nose' incident on Facebook.

The research team found the seals and removed the eels from their noses. On the Facebook page, the research group wrote that there have been a similar in the past too. While the seals were rescued, the eels couldn't be. The researches said that they have observed this phenomenon three or four times in the past. They said, "We don't know if this is just some strange statistical anomaly or something we will see more of in the future." Wasp That Converts Spiders Into Zombies Discovered! Here is the seal with eel in its nose

Explaining a probable scenario of how the eels would have ended up in their seals, NOAA Fisheries said, "Hawaiian monk seals forage by shoving their mouth and nose into the crevasses of coral reefs, under rocks, or into the sand. They are looking for prey that likes to hide, like eels. This may be a case of an eel that was cornered trying to defend itself or escape. Alternatively, the seal could have swallowed the eel and regurgitated it so that the eel came out the wrong way. We might not ever know."
