Scripps National Spelling Bee 2018: Know Words That Americans Google For Spelling

Google tweeted a map of the most popular "how to spell" searches in different states of America.

In honour of the the Scripps National Spelling Bee this week, Google has come up with a list of words of which we do not know the spelling. Google tweeted a map of the most popular "how to spell" searches in different states of America. While most states wanted to know spellings of commonly used words, it was Ohio that surprised everyone. People in Ohio were searching for the spelling of the word 'supercalifragilisticexpialidocious'.

The Oxford English Dictionary word was coined in the 1940s and popularized by the 1964 Disney musical starring Julie Andrews. Ir means "extraordinarily good; wonderful." While looking for the meaning of this word is completely justified, people in around 11 states were looking how to spell beautiful. Resume and Fiancé are among other words for which people frequently do spell checks on Google. In the Scripps National Spelling Bee this week over 500 students from across the country May 29 to May 31 have participated.

Massachusetts: Beautiful

Mississippi: Gray

Missouri: Sincerely

The Scripps National Spelling Bee is an annual spelling bee held in the United States. While most of the participants are from America, students from The Bahamas, Canada, the People's Republic of China, Ghana, Japan, Jamaica, Mexico, and New Zealand have also participated in the competition.
