Screw Pierces Three-Year-Old Boy's Eye in Thailand, Miraculously Avoids Getting Blinded

A 3-year-old boy was rushed to hospital in northeastern Thailand after he pierced his eye with a screw. He was taken to a hospital where medics removed the screw. They believe that he will be able to see again. The incident happened when he was a watching his father using petrol-powered handheld grass cutter slung over his shoulder on Monday.

A three-year-old boy was rushed to hospital in northeastern Thailand after he pierced his eye with a screw.  He was taken to a hospital where medics removed the screw. They believe that he will be able to see again. The incident happened when he was a watching his father using petrol-powered handheld grass cutter slung over his shoulder in Khon Kaen on Monday evening. When his father walked upto another part of the garden, the blades zipped over a small, one-inch long metal screw. The silver screw then thew up in the air and ended up in the boy's left eye. He was immediately taken to a hospital where medics took X-rays of his eye. It showed that the screw had ripped through the eyeball, but fortunately, it had stopped at the entrance of the skull. So, it had not touched the cornea and retina. Ophthalmologist Tat Sanguansak who treated the boy was quoted by Metro as saying, "Fortunately, the screw struck his eyeball but did not go into the lens, which thankfully has spared his sight. ‘However, due to the accident his eye bled badly and now is still bloodshot so there will be follow up treatment to help the boy see again. We’re pleased with the outcome of the surgery. If the screw had been slightly to the left he would have been blinded."
