An Uttar Pradesh man was rushed to hospital on Saturday for a reason people would find hard to believe. The man, Sonelal from Hardoi bit off a snake's head, chewed it and then spit it. While the rest of us would find it scary and disgusting, Sonelal did it to take revenge as the snake had bitten him. Soon he fell unconscious and was taken to a community health center, however, the doctor could not find any bite marks on his body.

Sonelal was brought to Moghaganj CHC by a state-run ambulance after they received a call. Emergency medical officer Dr Mahendra Verma and pharmacist Hitesh Kumar attended to him. Hitesh said, "His nephew Nanhe said Sonelal was alone when the incident took place but someone told him that a snake had bitten him. We administered emergency medicines and kept him under observation."

According to the locals, Sonelal was addicted to drugs. He was brought to the CHC at 7 pm and regained consciousness at around 10pm. A pharmacist at the CHC explained what Sonelal said on regaining consciousness as "He claimed that he was grazing his cattle when a snake bit him. He said that he picked up the snake in anger and bit off its head and chewed it before spitting it out."

However, Dr Verma who checked Sonelal said that the snake had not bitten him at all. The Times of India quoted him as saying, "It appears that the snake had not bitten him at all. We did not find any snake bite marks on his body. He turned unconscious because of consuming the snake’s body part which could have contained venom assuming that it was a poisonous snake."

Secretary, state mental health society, Dr SC Tewari said that the man's behavior does not seem to be normal. He said, "This isn't normal human reaction. Someone has to be extremely aggressive or deranged to behave in this way."
