Sana Mir Warns Sportswomen Against Hair Removal Cream Companies! Ex Pakistani Cricket Captain Slams Them for Body Shaming
Taking on corporate objectifying women, former Pakistan national women's cricket team captain, Sana Mir has expressed her outrage in a Facebook post.
More and more celebrities are today outrightly talking against fairness cream ads. Lashing out at the nation's obsession with fair skin, many of them have refused from endorsing the products. At the time is someone who is talking about another million dollar industry that tries to sell body images to women - hair removal creams.
Taking on corporates that objectify women, former Pakistan national women's cricket team captain, Sana Mir has expressed her outrage in a Facebook post. In the post, Mir says she was offered a "campaign by a company promoting a hair removal cream", however, she refused it. The cricketer says the ad for both Pakistan and India was "magnifying a girl's concern about how she looks on a basketball court".
Slamming the idea, Mir says how the campaign wanted to promote "body shaming and objectification" and not show how strong athletes are. Questioning the thought, she asks "Are the talent, passion and skill of a girl not enough for her to play sports?" Reaching out to young girls aspiring to take up sports, she says, "Make no mistake: you need strong arms, not smooth arms, on a sports field."

Mir says in her 12 years of career as a sportswoman in Pakistan, she has rejected several beauty product endorsements as it tries to inject the idea of only external grooming. Her post further reads, "I request all sponsors and celebrities to ensure that when we engage young girls to fulfil their dreams, we show them a path that gives them actual confidence rather than disabling them by making them self-conscious."
Mir's post is overpouring in with positive reactions for talking about the social issue. Facebook users referred to her as an inspiration and thanked for lifting their spirits. Calling her a role model, social media users looked glad that they had a strong female athlete to look up to who carefully chose projects keeping various things in mind.
