The newly launched limited edition of Indian brand Royal Enfield Classic 500 Pegasus motorcycle was found amidst heaps of garbage recently. Pictures of the bullet lying on a dumping ground have gone viral on social media. While internet users can't stop exclaiming at the loss, there is a story about how and why it ended up there. Last month, Royal Enfield launched a limited edition Pegasus 500 motorcycle in India for Rs 2.4 lakh. They claimed it is an exclusive motorcycle with just 250 units of them available in India.
Few weeks after the proclamation, Royal Enfield launched a similar looking Classic 350 ABS (Anti-lock Braking System) Signals at Rs 1.61 lakh. While it is priced Rs 80,000 cheaper, it has same or better features, thus the exclusivity of Pegasus 500 is lost. Rush Lane reported that Pegasus owners were irked and felt the company cheated them. To showcase their anger, an owner threw Pegasus 500 along with a pile of waste portraying how it is nothing more than that.
Here are the pictures:
@royalenfield - I was Proud of Royal Enfield but now it seems money is the only motive of you not the quality of service. You seriously cheated the people who buyed Pegasus 500. #shameroyalenfield pic.twitter.com/rKTRprrYc4

Unhappy customers also wrote an open letter to Royal Enfield. A letter written by a Pegasus owner to Enfield reads, "Feeling really cheated. Why can't you guys didn't gave abs to just a month before launched Pegasus? Really cheated. Also similar design. Then how Pegasus will be a special edition. Totally uninterested in RE brand. You people don't know how much struggle we faced to get Pegasus. Firstly we waited and tried booking for July 10 and website crashed. And then no postponed booking date announcement by RE. Before taking delivery, you made us go into depression from excitement. Not everyone booked Pegasus are rich. We just booked for uniqueness and got a loan from banks to take this bike. Now I am not at all excited to take delivery."
Rush Lane quoted Royal Enfield reply as, "We understand why you might feel that way, but we want to ensure we would not do anything to undervalue your prized possession. The Pegasus 500cc and Signals range share the same platform but are unique in inspiration and design. Moreover, the Pegasus has a higher displacement."
The makers boast that Classic 500 Pegasus is inspired by World War II bikes which were used by British paratroopers. The inspiration comes from the legendary RE/WD Flying Flea 125 motorcycle that was manufactured during the battle at company's underground facility in Westwood, the United Kingdom.
