Unusual art always gets attention, but a supposed ‘installation’ for the Royal Academy of Arts' next exhibition has made it to the headlines for its bizarre mandate. Visitors to this exhibition in London must squeeze through two nude models to enter inside. Although there is a separate entrance for those who feel too uncomfortable to touch and pass between the nude models, it has got everyone talking. Marina Abramovic's Art Exhibition in London: Visitors Need To Squeeze Between Nude Models To Enter Royal Academy of Arts Exhibition.
The unusual installation is part of a career retrospective of Serbian performance artist Marina Abramović. The pair of nude models stand too close to one another, and visitors are compelled to pass between them. Royal Academy’s head of exhibitions, Andrea Tarsia was quoted in a report, “Entering between the two naked performers forces those with tickets into a "confrontation between nakedness, and the gender, the sexuality, the desire.” It serves as a thought-provoking introduction to Abramović’s unique brand of art.
Other performances in the exhibition include a naked woman being pinned on the wall in a crucifix pose - and Nude with Skeleton, where a naked performance artist will lay on the ground for hours with a skeleton on top of them. Abramović is the first female artist in the academy's 255-year history to perform in the main galleries. Nudity, Blood and Pain: Revisiting Marina Abramovic's Work.

An art pioneer, Marina Abramovic is known for pushing the boundaries to display thought-provoking art, and this is one of them. However, it has got mixed reviews. On social media, people expressed horror, humour and bemusement. Some questioned the purpose and appropriateness of such an unusual entrance. But others also expressed concerns about the potential discomfort that some may face in this experience. The Royal Academy of Arts has said the safety and welfare of performers was its top priority, and gallery staff will be on standby to protect them from any unwanted touching or inappropriate behaviour.
