Rola Cola by Parle is Back by Popular Demand! Other 90s Candies and Drinks We Hope Make a Comeback Too!

Every 90s kid will be brimming with nostalgia right now as Parle's Rola Cola, a candy with cola flavour is being relaunched. The confectionary brand was prompted by a tweet to get the famous candy back in the market. Rola Cola was discontinued in the year 2006 but consumer demand has got it back on the racks, more than a decade later. For a kid growing up in the 90s, we have had some fondest memories of chocolates, candies and soft drinks that were in the market. Every child loves chocolates but as we grew up, the products changed. The candies too were replaced, some repackaged and some discontinued forever. A Rola Cola fan tweeted in February 2019 asking Parle to reintroduce the candy. Over thousands of netizens liked and retweeted his request, prompting Parle to listen to their customers. "YOU asked, we listened. India's most loved cola ka gola is back with a bang! Get your pack today! #RolaColaIsBack," Parle announced in a tweet on Tuesday. And people from the 90s are joyous to finally get their hands on the good old cola-flavoured candy. Given below are some other food products which we would like to see in the markets again.

Gold Spot

Gold Spot, a carbonated soft drink was started in India by Parle Bisleri in the year 1993. It was introduced in the market along with two other soft drinks Thums Up and Limca. Gold Spot was an artificially orange-flavoured drink with a tagline "The Zing Thing". It was too popular but it was withdrawn by Coke, to make space for their brand. Coca Cola then came up with the Fanta brand of soft drink.

Canada Dry

Another soft drink brand that was very popular among the 90s generation was Canada Dry from American company Keurig Dr Pepper. It was more popular in markets of Mexico, Chile, Colombia, Peru, Middle East, Africa. In India, it was introduced by Cadbury Schweppes in 1995. Canada Dry was more like a Champagne in a soft drink with its different and refreshing taste. However, it did not run longer than four years, as Coke entered the market with Thums Up and Limca.

Chiclets

At a time when chewing gums were not that popular in India, Chiclets emerged a new craze. Manufactured by Mondelēz International, it was founded in 1900 by American Chicle Company. Chicle is a Spanish word for chewing gum and that how it derived its name. It was originally available in peppermint flavour and assorted fruit flavours were launched later. This brand, however, was discontinued in the year 2016, although the gum was not available

Googly Candy

We are not sure how many of you even remember these fruit flavoured candies. They were available at a typical nukkad (corner) shop and for those who do not like much of chocolate but wanted something to savour on, then Googly candy with its googly eyes design on the package was among the best ones.

Coffy Bite

Today we almost empty cups of coffee back to back, but during our childhood when coffee wasn't as popular for us as kids, we relied on coffy bite. Lotte's classic Coffy Bite blended coffee flavour into a creamy toffee. It was kind of an addictive experience. And as much as we drink cups of coffee back to back, we hope we could just munch on these toffies instead.

These are some of the really nice candies and drinks that have been discontinued. Although there are many others too like Big Babol, Parle Kismi, Cadbury Nutties, Cadbury Choci, Boomer etc, one can still order them online. These chocolates and candies are being sold online by some retailers, so they are not completely off. As Rola Cola reenters the market, we hope some of the above products are relaunched too.
