Rakhi Delivered in France Instead of London, Courier Firm to Pay Rs 25,000 as Compensation

A Rakhi that was couriered from India to London earlier this year was sent to France. A Bengaluru courier firm and its Mohali franchise are responsible for the major goof up and now have to pay the customer with monetary compensation. DTDC Express Limited, Bengaluru, and Rishabh Traders, Industrial Area, Phase 7, has been asked by the district consumer disputes redressal forum to pat Rs 25,000 to Shivani and Jeevan Sharma of Sector 41.
According to a Hindustan Times report, consumer forum presided over by GK Dhir ruled, "Rakhi is such a thing, which should reach the destination station on or before the day... In case such a parcel does not reach the station of destination or is not received by the relative to whom it is sent, then certainly emotions/sentiments of the sender are bound to be hurt."
The forum told the courier firm to pay Rs 20,000 to the complainant as compensation and Rs 5,000 as the cost of litigation for the "mental agony and harassment" they had to go through. They are also to refund Rs 1,050 paid by the customers for the service along with interest till payment.
Sharmas sent the Rakhi to Kaminder Singh in London, United Kingdom. It was to be delivered within a week, but it did not. According to the DTDC consignment record, the parcel was shipped to London on August 13 ahead of Raksha Bandhan , but was delivered in France on August 25. The firm admitted to the mistake on being asked. The incident hurt Sharmas as Singh had even sent them Rs 51,000 as shagun. The firm did not appear for ruling in the forum. SA local agent filed a reply saying they have a franchise in Mohali.
