Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Sunday met Rajamma Vavathil, a retired nurse on the last day of his three-day visit to Wayanad district in Kerala. Rajamma who has worked in Delhi as a nurse was present at the time of Rahul Gandhi's birth in 1970. Rahul Gandhi won the Wayanad parliamentary constituency in the recent Lok Sabha Elections 2019. Gandhi took to social media sharing pictures with Rajamma whom he met during his Wayanad visit. The pictures were shared from Rahul Gandhi's official handle for Wayanad district with the caption, "As CP @RahulGandhi's third day begins, he shares a light moment with Rajamma, a retired nurse present at the time of his birth."
During the meet, Rajamma gifted Rahul Gandhi a packet of home-made jackfruit chips and sweets. She also told him the excitement on holding 'Indira Gandhi's grandson' for her first time in her arms, which Gandhi listened to patiently and smiled. The Congress President hugged her and held her hand as her family came to meet him at a guest house. He has promised to meet her again. Rajamma said that she was glad to meet him after so many years. Congress leader Ramesh Chennithala, who was accompanying Rahul Gandhi in Wayanad took to Facebook writing, "The hands that received little Rahul five decades back embraced him again today. Rajamma was working as nurse at Delhi Holy Cross hospital during 1970s, when Rahulji was born. The grandchild of the then Prime Minister Indiraji was dear to the hospital staffs. It's Rajamma who embraced Rahul before his parents (sic)."

Rahul Gandhi was born on June 19, 1970, in Delhi's Holy Cross Hospital. The Congress Chief will turn 49 later this month. Gandhi who is on a three-day visit to Wayanad, is touring the length and breadth of the district thanking people for choosing him. He won with a massive victory margin of 4.31 lakh votes.
