Chennai, July 16: Puducherry Lieutenant Governor Kiran Bedi's happiness knew no bounds when France won the 2018 FIFA World Cup Final Match against Croatia on Sunday. Soon after France won FIFA World Cup 2018, Bedi tweeted, "We won." Finding Puducherry's win in France's victory, Bedi wrote on Twitter, "We the Puducherrians (erstwhile French Territory) won the World Cup. Congratulations Friends. What a mixed team-all French. Sports unite."
Puducherry, earlier known as Pondicherry, was a French colony until it merged into the Indian Union in 1962. Bedi's tweet was followed by some angry reactions as well as certain trolls, pointing out to her that "we were Indians". "We are Indians Madam. Your publicity stunts need to stop," wrote a user on Twitter.
