PSL 2018: Shahid Afridi Involved in an Ugly Send-off, Posts Apology to 19-year-old Cricketer on Twitter
The 3rd edition of PSL has seen a lot of banters and heated exchanges between the players this year. It will be interesting to see how the players conduct themselves on the field once the tournament is in its latter stages.
Shahid Afridi, known for his mercurial behaviour on the field, was involved in another ugly send-off of Saif Badar, a 19-year-old cricketer, in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) match, played on March 10. Afridi bowled a spectacular spell for Karachi Kings against Multan Sultans as he pouched 3 wickets for 18 runs.
Chasing a mammoth total of 185 runs, Saif Badar hit a four and a six in the first four balls of the 10th over of the innings. That clearly didn’t go down well with Afridi. On the fifth ball, Badar tried to play a cut short and was bowled-out in the process. Afridi directed the youngster, pointing, towards the dressing room.

Afridi’s trademark – arms raised and fingers pointing towards the sky, and feet apart – celebration style is quite popular. However, this was an unwanted gesture towards a young cricketer, after he had been dismissed. This was a clear show of frustration getting better of the Pakistani great allrounder.
However, one of the best all-rounders of Cricket, Afridi is a well-respected personality in Pakistan cricket. Saif Badar took to the micro-blogging site, Twitter, and showed heart in his tweet. Badar wrote, “Still love you Shahid bhai #Legend”. Read Saif Badar's tweet here:
Shahid Afridi, being the gentleman that he is, apologised for the incident on Twitter. He said that it all happened in the heat of the game and was feeling sorry for it. He added that he has always supported youngsters. Read Shahid Afridi’s tweet here:
Afridi has not been able to contribute much with the bat in this PSL. However, the spin bowler has taken 10 wickets in six matches this year and is on the third spot of the top wicket-takers list in PSL 2018.
