Now if you are wondering what do the dabbawalas got to do with the royalty, then there is a connection. In 2003, Prince Charles, the Prince of Wales had visited the dabbawalas of Mumbai. The Prince was very impressed by their work, their daily management and had an interaction with them. In fact, two of the office-bearers of their organisation were also invited to the wedding of Prince Charles and Camilla Parker-Bowles that took place in April 2005. Since then, the dabbawallas have a sort of a relation with the British royals. Talking about the wedding of Prince Harry, the official spokesperson of the association told ANI, "Prince Charles is our friend. If there's wedding at his home, it's a wedding at our home. If we get the invitation, at least two of us will definitely go there." He also said, "When we met Prince Charles, he tagged us as 'Management Gurus.' He has now become our friend."
Distributing sweets to their daily customers is not the only thing. They will also provide free meals to the relatives of patients at the government-run Tata Memorial Hospital, KEM Hospital and Wadia Hospital on the wedding day. The Dabbawalas association also wants to send a pair of traditional Maharashtrian attire for the royal couple. They are seeking the help of the consulate to do that. Isn't it a good way of celebrating the royal wedding and the connection with Prince Charles by the humble dabbawalas?
