Nine-year-old twins Sagar Lepcha and Sajan Lepcha may not be privileged enough, but that has not stopped them from following their dreams. The brothers won the National Junior and Sub-Junior Muay Thai Championship 2019 held last month in Guwahati, Assam. Sagar received a gold medal, while Sajan bagged silver in the 26-kg weight category for players in the age group of 9 to 10. Earlier this year, the brothers had bagged medals in the Northeast Muay Thai Championship held at Dentam in West Sikkim. According to a report in East Mojo, the brothers do not have the required necessities for proper training. They practise on cement bags filled with sand under the guidance of their Coach Dawgyal Lepcha. Reportedly, their 22-year-old neighbour Muay Thai player Dawgyal Lepcha discovered the hidden talent in the twin boys. He began training them and started giving Muay Thai classes. According to the coach, they took up Muay Thai to escape poverty. Muay Thai is a sport of Thailand which uses stand-up striking along with various clinching techniques.
After the Sikkim twins won Muay Thai Championship held in Dentam, pictures of their practice session went viral on social media. It shows Sagar and Sajan kicking on sandbags during their training. The pictures had garnered a lot of heartwarming response from social media users.

Sagar and Sajan live with their parents in Bermoik Berthang, which is located on the opposite hill of Geyzing town in West Sikkim. Their parents do odd jobs to earn a living and support their children's education. The boys attend Lower Bermoik Government School which is located near home. The coach said that his assumptions about the boys were proven right when they won Northeast Muay Thai Championship in Dentam. Following which, he intensified their martial arts classes.
Coach Dawgyal Lepcha who is also a member of the Muay Thai Association of Sikkim (MTAS) was quoted as saying, "I could see their talent and wanted to support them. They hail from a poor family and I wanted the kids to do well in future. So, I took them under me and started training them. They along with other kids train daily with me in the morning and evening hours." He added saying, "Both Sagar and Sajan have the potential to do well in future in Muay Thai. We are planning to find sponsors so that the twins can be sent for international championships in the coming days. They need support at this juncture."
