A postman in Italy is facing criminal charges for not doing his work on time. The former employee of the post office did not deliver mails he was assigned to and kept it hidden in his home. He had 400 kg of undelivered mails at his home in the city of Turin. The 33-year-old did not deliver mails for whole three years as felt his salary was too low. The man had quit his job in 2017.

The police discovered the piled of mails after he was stopped during a routine check. During which, he had a 20cm long folding knife in his possession along with 70 letters in his backseat. Police who were suspicious of him then went to his home to find 40 boxes of undelivered mails. It even included bank statements, bills, and private letters.

He had stored telephone directories from 2013 and campaign letters from the 2010 regional elections, tax forms and other correspondence in a garage near his home in Breganze, Vicenza.

Following which he has been levied with charges of theft, misappropriation of correspondence and for carrying a weapon. The Guardian quoted him as saying, "I wasn't paid enough and so I quit." The man now faces a sentence of up to one year. Reportedly, this is not the first time a similar case emerged from Italy, there have been similar instances in the past too.

Failure to deliver post carries a prison sentence of up to one year in Italy. In a similar incident earlier this year, a 56-year-old man from Vicenza was arrested after he tried to recycle more than half a tonne of undelivered posts.
