Portugal Day 2019: Google Doodle Celebrates Dia De Portugal With the National Flag of the Country

Google has dedicated a doodle celebrating the Dia de Portugal with a flag of Portugal fluttering on the search engine's main page.

Portugal Day 2019 is celebrated on June 10, officially known as the Day of Portugal, Camões in Portuguese it is known as, "Dia de Portugal, de Camões e das Comunidades Portuguesas." The national day of Portugal is an annual celebration that commemorates the death of national literary icon Luís de Camões on June 10, 1580. Google has dedicated a doodle celebrating the Dia de Portugal with a flag of Portugal fluttering on the search engine's main page. The Google doodle observes the day of this coastal country in the Iberian peninsula that is officially observed only in Portugal however, Portuguese citizens and emigrants throughout the world celebrate this holiday too. Portugal Day 2019 Date: Know History, Significance & Celebrations Associated to Dia de Portugal.

Portugal has a rich history and Dia de Portugal celebrates the people who have created the history of the country. Today's Google Doodle commemorates national poet Luís de Camões, author of the epic Os Lusíadas, published in 1572 that sings the tale of Portuguese navigator Vasco Da Gama’s search for a trade route to India. The poem is considered as a tribute to Portugal’s proud history of seafaring exploration.

The day also encourages trips to visit the beautiful place as on this day you must visit the Luis de Camões monument in Lisbon, or the bridge named for Da Gama (the longest bridge in Europe). Portuguese citizens usually celebrate the day by spending time with their friends and family and remember their shared history. The President of Portugal attends the official celebrations usually consisting of parades, fireworks, concerts, and outdoor celebrations featuring singing, dancing, and plenty of Portugal’s national dish, bacalhau. The food too holds significance that is tied with the sailors in the olden day who used to keep their catch at home dried, salted.
