People strolling in Perth's Yagan Square were treated to a shocking show on Thursday evening. An electronic signboard which helps people navigate their way through the city was displaying content from a pornography website. Yagan Square, a vibrant family-friendly public place in Australia was not ready for this content, however, it was out in the open. The widely-used adult website, Pornhub's homepage was on a signboard in Yagan Square!

It was Michael Schmook, a commuter who spotted porn being showcased on the signboard. As per a report SBS, porn was displayed on one screen for seven minutes and was later switched off. While some who saw the pictures uploaded it on Twitter with funny captions, others were horrified that such content was on display in a public place. Reportedly, it was likely to have been manually uploaded by a member of the public following a 'software malfunction'.

Talking to ABC about the signboard, Schmook said, "There were quite a few people walking by who took a second glance, some having a bit of a giggle, but a couple looked pretty shocked. It's not a huge screen but it's pretty prominent as you walk through crossing from the CBD to Northbridge."

Here is what the signboard looked like:

Following the incident, a Metropolitan Redevelopment Authority spokeswoman said, "Yagan Square has two touchscreen wayfinding signs, one at each entrance of the William Street Mall. Unfortunately, it appears that these screens were compromised this evening and, for a brief period of time, some inappropriate content was displayed on one of the screens. Both screens were immediately turned off and power has also been switched off to the units to eliminate all possibilities of a recurrence."

She also said, "The MRA takes this matter very seriously and will undertake a full investigation to understand how this event has happened and identify those responsible."

Yagan Square opened to the public last month after 10 years in the making, connecting Perth's CBD to Northbridge at a cost of USD 73.5 million. Among the new features are a children's park, a water feature, an amphitheater for public performances and gatherings, a multicultural food hall to showcase WA produce and a digital tower that screens items of public interest. According to Pornhub's last year's review, the adult site is the 23rd most visited website in Australia.
