Social media is getting uglier day by day. The recent twitter outburst by Arjun Kapoor proves it again. A media portal highlighted Janhvi Kapoor’s picture and highlighted it in the most inappropriate way along with a sleazy headline. Arjun slammed the portal, tweeting, “know what Fuck u man fuck u as a website for highlighting or bringing it to anyone s attention...and it’s shameful that ur eye would go searching for something like this shame on u... this is how our country looks at young women yet another shining example...ashamed by this [sic].” Obviously, the portal got slammed left, right and centre and it so deserves it. However, what about us as a society? Media is serving it all, what online users have ordered. We all know why Sunny Leone is the most searched actress since so many years.

Media plays an extremely important role in highlighting the important events going on in a star’s life. However, with growing competition and extreme social media use, some media outlets go out of the way to cover things that are totally unnecessary. While it is a hundred percent incorrect thing to showcase such things by the media, isn’t it equally immoral for the fans to encourage it? Would these outlets dare to publish such articles if the readers themselves showed disinterest or slammed such coverage, is the right question.

Without going much into the technical details, it should be noted that the mobile and internet browsers feature these sleazy, almost porn and morphed fake image and stories as ‘most read’ or ‘most searched’ articles primarily on their homepages. If you look at these screenshots, most of the articles are related to unnecessary coverage of wardrobe malfunctions of the actresses or more such topics. Why are these popping up when ideally it should have been their films? Should we blame only media, or the society is at fault?

Coming back to Arjun, he was even trolled for slamming the web portal. Criticism is one thing and trolling incessantly is another. Trolling someone for writing against such immoral articles only scares us as to what exactly is this mentality? Sadly, we as a society, are at failure!
