Police Smriti Diwas is celebrated on October 21 to honour the Indian Police Force for their contribution to India. Police Martyrs' Day or Police Commemoration Day is observed by police departments nationwide. The history of this day dedicated to the Indian police dates back to 1959 when a Central Reserve Police Force patrol at the Indo-Tibetan border in Ladakh was ambushed by Chinese forces as part of the ongoing Sino-Indian border dispute. Today netizens have taken to social media to pay tribute to the martyrs of the attack. The observance in Hindi is called Police Smriti Diwas.
