Cyclone Fani, the extremely severe cyclonic storm, that made landfall at Puri on Friday disrupted normal life in Odisha. Coupled with heavy rainfall, it was one of the "rarest of the rare" summer cyclones to hit Odisha in 43 years.  As the wind brought down trees, took away rooftops, cut electricity and communication lines, the disaster relief teams were coordinating with the state police to bring maximum people to safety. Applauding the police officer of Talchua Police Station, Kendrapara, Odisha Police tweeted saying, "Braving all odds and adversaries, our officers are making all the possible efforts to evacuate every single person to the safety." The tweet is being shared widely with people praising the cop's work. The death toll in Cyclone Fan rose to 16 in Odisha on Saturday. Restoration work is being carried across 10,000 villages and 52 urban areas where the wind caused destruction. The seaside pilgrim town of Puri was the worst hit in the disaster followed by Bhubaneswar and Cuttack. Lakhs of trees have been uprooted, houses have been destroyed, electric poles fell, no water supply to homes. Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik said that 12 lakh people have been evacuated and shifted to safer locations. Flight operations at Bhubaneshwar airport resumed on Saturday while train services are yet to resume from Puri.
