A Peruvian man’s curious signature has gone viral on social media. Why? Because the signature is a drawing of a ‘kitten’. Seriously? Why would you have a signature as a kitten? The man’s signature went viral after a photo of his ID next to an official police document signed by him were posted online in the coastal town of Huarmey. 31-year-old Juan Carlos Varillas Bazan along with five others had been arrested on July 18 on charges of gun possession. After being taken to the local police station and signed into jail, one signature drew the attention of officers was that of Juan’s. The officials thought it was hilarious and posted it on the station’s Facebook page.
Initially the officers thought that they were being trolled, but only after checking his ID and seeing that it featured the same drawing did they realise that it was really the guy’s signature. It didn’t take long for the post to go viral on multiple social networks and for the jokes to start rolling in. But it turns out the kitty doodle has a touching story behind it. Juan told La Republica that when he was 16 he had taken a kitty that he loved very much, so when he got his first ID card, he decided to honour its memory by signing his name with the kitten doodle.

Juan told the reporters that the staff at the National Registry of Identification and Civil Status advised him to choose a more common way of signing himself to avoid trouble in future, but yet he stuck with it. He admits that the drawing makes things difficult for him whenever he needs to sign an important document. Juan is now preparing to sue the police station for disclosing private information about him without asking his permission. He also claims that he was detained for no reason, as he was only driving the five men accused of illegal gun possession, as reported in Oddity Central.
