With #PayMeToo, the good thing is that people have taken the issue of gender pay-gap head-on, and are willing to hold the bull by its horns!

#PayMeToo – a movement has been launched by Labour Party MP Stella Creasy in the United Kingdom (UK). The #PayMeToo campaign aims to see that female worker in the organisation are paid at par, and not lower than their male counterparts.

It is often seen that female employees in a company are paid less remuneration than what their male colleagues get. In order to address this issue of pay disparity, women in UK have begun this #PayMeToo crusade online!

The following Pay Me Too campaign has been launched by a group of MPs in the UK to encourage women in holding their employers accountable and rightfully demand action over the issues of gender pay-gap.

In the UK, all the private companies that have a strength of over 250 employees will have to reveal the difference in pay to both, male and female workers, to the Law authorities, before Wednesday – April 4 midnight. As the reports of gender pay disparity are being revealed by the companies, the #PayMeToo wave is only getting stronger!

To keep the campaign alive and kicking, a website was launched on April 2. The social media campaign is aiming to ensure that the women workers have the right to address the issue at their workplace. Not only that, women would also be offered bits of advice and tips as to how to tackle the following situation.

It is often said that one should not talk to their colleagues about the remuneration at the workplace. However, the #PayMeToo campaign discourages it. The movement encourages the women employees to talk with their male colleagues and ask about their pay.

The online movement, #PayMeToo, is drawing huge support from people who hail not only from the UK but different parts of the world. A similarly named campaign – #MeToo – was launched last year which was women coming out and sharing their bad (of sexual harassment) experiences on social media.

To draw comparisons between the two issues is a no-brainer, but it cannot be denied that #MeToo saw a lot of people coming out. Will the latest #PayMeToo campaign be able to draw similar success than what #MeToo campaign did, is for time to tell!

The notable thing, here, is that people have taken the much-needed issue of gender pay-gap head-on, and are now willing to hold the bull by its horns!
