The little girl, Aurora had wandered away from her family home at Cherry Gully in the south of Warwick on Friday in the afternoon. Max who followed his human into the forest and remained by her side as she slept overnight while temperatures dropped to 15 degrees.
According to an ABC report, about 100 police, State Emergency Services workers and members of the public were in search of the child on Saturday. It was the girl’s grandmother, Leisa Marie Bennett, who heard Aurora faintly from the top of a mountain about 2km from home. She first found Max, who led her to Aurora, who was fine other than a few minor bruises.
The Queensland Police took to Facebook saying, "SUCH A GOOD BOY, MAX! He stayed with his three-year-old human last night whilst she was lost near Warwick. For keeping her safe until she was found, you're now an honorary police dog!" Reportedly, Max stayed with Aurora for around 15 hours.

An impressed Queensland Police took to social media lauding Max's work. For his bravery, they have made him an honorary police dog. The report quoted SES area controller Ian Phipps as saying, "The area around the house is quite mountainous and is very inhospitable terrain to go walking in, so she'd travelled quite a distance with her dog that was quite loyal to her."
