It is ironical to see harsh treatment meted out to Padmaavat’s song Ghoomar in India while it enjoys a warm acceptance out of the country. Deepika Padukone’s song that was tagged offensive and accused of hurting sentiments by several Rajput groups in the country upon its release is garnering euphoric reception internationally. A video of figure skater named Mayuri Bhandari performing on Ghoomar on ice is the latest example of the unconditional love Deepika as Rani Padmavati is receiving worldwide. Mayuri’s sensational dance in this video posted on YouTube has created a sensation on the social media, something that will make Deepika both proud as well as secretly jealous. Cheerleaders Perform to Ghoomar Song From Movie Padmaavat in a NBA Match Between Charlotte Hornets and Miami Heat in US.

Mayuri Bhandari, an actress of East Indian descent, also a national level figure skating champion posted a video of her dance on Ghoomar song recently. Giving the description of the video, she writes, “In honour of the film Padmaavat's release, here is my ice skating tribute to the beautiful song Ghoomar! As a Rajasthani, I skate to this song with pride!” And Oh, boy, she danced like there’s no tomorrow.

Dressed up in customized lehenga-choli ice skating outfit, she began her performance doing classical hasta mudras. After setting the tone right, Mayuri showed off her figure skating finesse that included spins, jumps, moves in the field, spirals and several other stupendous moves on the ice. She glided like a dream, not letting go of the rhythm or catching every beat of the popular traditional number.

It has been a little over a week since Deepika Padukone’s Padmaavat released on January 25. Despite the film directed by one of India’s celebrated filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali and starring industry’s two heartthrobs, Shahid Kapoor and Ranveer Singh, Padmaavat will be called Deepika’s film. She has been the face and steely spine of the film both on and off the silver screen. And as the film conquers the box office, the 32-year-old actress’ popularity also sees a new rise.
