Nestlé has launched pink KitKats with a unique "intense fruity taste". The chocolate in lurid pink lipstick colour is said to be made from selected cocoa beans. KitKat Ruby thus becomes the first major brand to launch "naturally coloured" chocolate from ruby cocoa beans grown in the Ivory Coast, Ecuador and Brazil. The four-fingered pink KitKat will be first available to consumers in the United Kingdom next week. It will go on sale in Tesco branches on April 16.

It was created by Swiss chocolatier Barry Callebaut, the world’s largest cocoa processor. Reportedly, more than a decade was spent experimenting with the beans' colours and flavours to get the right one. The company describes pink Kitkat's flavour as "a tension between berry-fruitiness and luscious smoothness".

The pink colour comes from a powder extracted during the processing. After Nestlés' white chocolate which was unveiled more than 80 years ago, this one is said to be a new natural colour for chocolate.

Japan and Korea already have variations of the chocolate. You will find purple sweet potato, edamame bean and wasabi in Japan. Talking about their newly launched ruby chocolate, Alexander von Maillot, Global Head of Confectionery said, "Our teams globally took just four months to develop the first product after Ruby chocolate was revealed. We are very pleased with the speed and innovation KitKat Ruby brings and is now excited to introduce it to more consumers in Europe."
