Kami Rita Sherpa, who has been working as a guide on Mount Everest for the past 21 years is all set to make a record-breaking feat. Nepali Sherpa is planning to summit Mount Everest for the 22nd time next month! He set off on Sunday and will reach the top of the world along with hundreds of other climbers. Their return will decide on the weather and other conditions that affect climbing. However, they are expected to reach the summit in May.

However, for Sherpa climbing to 8,848 metres (29,029 feet) is a job and does not consider it as a record-shattering feat. The 43-year-old first summited Everest in 1994 becoming one of just 49 climbers to reach the peak. He completed his most recent ascent in May 2016. In 2017, 634 people made it to the top.

Currently, the record of 21 successful ascents is jointly held by Kami Rita and two other Nepali climbers. A successful summit could make him the world's most experienced Everest climber. This Sherpa works as a guide for a US-based company that organises climbing expeditions.

Sherpa guides foreign climbers reach the summit. However, there are not enough experienced sherpas to meet the rising demand of climbers. Kami Rita said that Sherpas prepare the route, fix ropes in place and other necessary climbing kit. For this attempt, Kami Rita will lead a team of 29 climbers from all over the world.

April being the climbing season, hundreds of climbers gather at the foot of Mount Everest.  They are given two months of training to adjust to the high altitude environment before they set off for the journey.  This season marks the 65th anniversary of the first summit of Everest by Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay.
