NASA has released a rare picture of the sun so eerily illuminated that it resembles a Jack-o'-Lantern, the carved pumpkin for Halloween. There is a face in there, with two eyes and a creepy grin on the sun. NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory has placed cameras and telescopes with a watchful eye over the sun, to keep a tab on all of its movements and capture such rare ones. They shared the picture on their social media accounts and people too were feeling like staring into a Jack-o-Lantern. People were also amazed to see this view of the sun, which we are only used to seeing as a ball of fire.

The space agency informed that this picture was taken on October 8, 2014. The flares are a result of ultraviolet lights from the active regions. "The active regions in this image appear brighter because those are areas that emit more light and energy," the statement says. There may be science to it but the sun resembles the carved pumpkins so much. The Jack O'Lanterns made during Halloween are kept outside the homes with a light lit inside them to keep away the evil spirits.
