Shocking video of a great white shark leaping out of the water towards a young boy in Cape Cod Bay has gone viral on social media. The young boy, Jack Nelson was fishing with his family when the incident occurred. It took place three miles west of Great Island in Wellfleet, Massachusetts, on Saturday afternoon. The video shows the boy and two other people running away from water as the shark made the leap. As the video went viral on social media, netizens said that it was indeed a close encounter with a shark and that the family was lucky to be saved. The Atlantic White Shark Conservancy and Marc Costa, captain of the Orleans-based Columbia Sportfishing vessel confirmed it was a shark. He said he has had four such encounters in the past. Describing the encounter, Marc Costa told MassLive, "It came up and it grabbed the fish and then it made a circular leap to get back in the water and go away. 10 days earlier, Costa had a similar encounter with a larger shark around two miles away from where the mammal scared people on Saturday. Sharks often come close to humans in the Cape Cod area. After multiple shark sightings, two beaches, one at Race Point Beach in Provincetown and another at Nauset Beach off Orleans, were temporarily closed. In a similar incident last year, a man was killed and another seriously injured in a shark attack.
