Mumbai's Byculla zoo's newest entrants include a pair of jackals and leopards. The wild animals were brought to the Veermata Jijabai Bhosale Udyan, also called Byculla Zoo, from Mangaluru's Pilikulla zoo. Visitors will be able to see the animals from June onwards. The zoo is currently working on the enclosure for the animals and the work is expected to be completed in a month's time.

The Times of India quoted Zoo Director Sanjay Tripathi as saying, "A pair of leopards and jackals were brought to Mumbai on April 28. The male leopard, aged two, has been named Drogone and the female Pinto. Till the time the cage work gets completed, they will be kept in a quarantine centre." Rare White Lion Born in China's Nantong Forest, Pics of Simba's First Day at Zoo Goes Viral.

Reportedly, both the leopards are fed around three to four kilos of meat every day. A team of doctors is keeping a check on their health as they have come from a different time zone. In August 2017, the Byculla zoo had brought in penguins following the flow or visitors grew tremendously. Two more lions will also be soon brought to the zoo by the end of May. The zoo authorities are also trying to bring a zebra, giraffe, chimpanzee and flamingo. Efforts are also being taken to bring a white lion from Gujarat, a pair of tigers from Aurangabad. Last year, the first-ever Humboldt penguin chick born in the country had died in the zoo. The zoo had then attracted wrath saying that the conditions in India were not conducive for the species. The zoo has a special enclosure for the zoo which comes with appropriate temperature for the penguins.
