Incessant rains flooded parts of Mumbai over the last two days bringing the city to a standstill. With the lifeline of Mumbai, the local trains coming to a halt as water submerged tracks, people of the city experienced several issues. From flooded streets to shortage of water supply and electricity wors, Mumbaikars have been dealing with terrible issues. However, in the crisis situation, the spirit of Mumbai continues to stay strong. According to a tweet, one of the prominent malls in Mumbai suburbs, R City, located in Ghatkopar helped people stuck due to rains in the region. The social media presence of Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) and Mumbai Police have to be applauded. From urging Mumbaikars to avoid flooded streets to sharing inputs on affected areas, the Mumbai Police became the virtual saviours of the city and its people.

The caretakers of the city have been posting whereabouts on different parts of the city. BMC has been keeping people updated about alternate routes, weather forecast, road traffic, train status and much more.

On the request of BMC, Indian Navy deployed various teams to provide assistance to people affected in heavy rains in Kurla. About 1000 people were shifted to safety with the help of NDRF fire brigade, naval teams and the local volunteers.

As the rain continued to pour down, the Maharashtra government declared July 2 as a public holiday."In wake of the extremely heavy rainfall forecast by the IMD, the Government of Maharashtra has declared a public holiday on 2nd July as a precautionary measure for Mumbai city and its citizens," said BMC CPRO. With heavy rains expected in the next 24 hours, we urge Mumbaikars to stay indoors unless urgent. Let's do things in our capacity to help those in need while ensuring our safety.
