The Congress called for a Bharat Bandh on Monday supported by several opposition parties over the rising fuel prices across the country. Pictures of protest were shared on social media sites like Facebook and Twitter. However, one picture which is generating quite a buzz is that of Mahendra Singh Dhoni with his wife Sakshi, sitting at the petrol pump and chatting to people. This raised questions in the mind of many, and people wondered if Dhoni supported the Bharat Bandh as was claimed on social media.

But the reality is that it is an old picture which is being shared on Twitter and other social networking sites. And Dhoni had nothing to do with Bharat Bandh. Bharat Bandh Today: 608 People Detained and Released in Mumbai, 8 Cases Registered at Various Police Stations on Monday.

The whole incident owes its origin to a tweet shared by a user, out of the context. The picture also carries a caption in Hindi. "I have stopped playing the helicopter shot since petrol has expensive under Modi government" says the caption falsely attributed to Dhoni in the picture. Check the tweet below:

Though the image shared does show Dhoni and his wife Sakshi at a petrol pump, it is an old image from Shimla and was taken when Dhoni had gone there for the shoot of a commercial ad. Seems everything on social media, including old photos, can become fodder for fake news in our times.
