In the second T20I between India and South Africa, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, known for his composure and handling pressure situations, apparently lost his cool at Manish Pandey when the latter did not respond to his call and was looking elsewhere when he should have been focusing on Dhoni for the cue for a run. He used a cuss word that's associated more with 'Captain Hot' Virat Kohli.
Social media is abuzz with discussions on whether Dhoni did use the ‘B’ bomb and abuse Manish Pandey. However, there have been occasions when MSD who is also known as ‘Captain Cool’ has let emotions get better of him.
1) Dhoni vs Umpires (Australia)
In a one-day international between India and Australia, Suresh Raina was brought into the attack to get a vital breakthrough. Michael Hussey was batting and got stumped and the decision was referred upstairs. Hussey was given out but was called back by Billy Bowden after a quick word from the third umpire. Dhoni was furious at this and could be seen having an angry discussion with Billy Bowden.
2) Dhoni vs Reporter(s)
Dhoni has lost his cool in press conferences several times. At the press conference in T20 World Cup 2016, after India won the match by a narrow margin, Dhoni was asked by a reporter if the victory was really worth it as the match had gone right down the wire and could have turned either ways. Dhoni responded by saying that the reporter didn’t seem happy with India’s win and that the reporter’s tone was harsh. He also added that Cricket does not work according to a script and the result depends on what happens on the field.
3) Dhoni vs Mustafizur Rahman
Rarely has Dhoni been fined for his behaviour in the match. In this match with Bangladesh, the bowler Mustafizur Rahman kept obstructing Rohit Sharma while he was running between the wickets. Even the commentators said that it seemed deliberate from Rahman. When Mustafizur tried doing that with Dhoni, he got an elbow which immediately took him down. Both Dhoni and Mustafizur were charged their match fee. Here is what Dhoni had to say about the incident, though for Mustafizur, it was as bad as an accident.
It is not a sin though, to lose one’s cool. It’s just that the former captain of the team has hardly ever been angry on the field and hence him losing cool is also a moment to behold. One might be tempted to ask "MSD ko gussa kyun aata hai?" Poor running between wickets and loose fielding will be the top answer.
