A German supermarket chain, Lidl has come under fire for releasing a 'sexist' advertisement that lists a vacuum cleaner, ironing board, and sewing machine as Mother’s Day gift ideas. People found the idea extremely backdated, and quite offensive for stereotyping the role of a mum.In response to the negative backlash, the company was in the midst of, they have now pulled the ad.
According to a report on Independent, Lidl has now replaced the advertisement with one recommending customers to buy handbags and jewellery instead.

In response to all the slamming, Lidl issued a statement saying, “We regret that our current promotion causes some displeasure with some of our customers and we take the feedback very seriously. Lidl is now promoting handbags, jewellery and scarves as alternative presents for Mother’s Day." The ad in question appeared at its stores in Austria and was headed: "For the best mother".
