A monkey snatched away Rs 1,40,000 cash from a girl as she was to enter a bank with her father in Agra. Vijay Bansal was to going to the Indian Overseas bank on the first floor of a building in the Nai Ki Mandi area at 10:30 am when the incident happened. Bansal's 17-year-old daughter Nancy was holding the polythene bag that had Rs 2 lakh cash which the monkey robbed.
Bansal, who has owns a small jewellery shop in Rawli told Hindustan Times, "There were many monkeys and one of them suddenly snatched the bag as we were climbing the stairs. The monkey quickly moved to the top floors and we couldn’t do anything."
Bansal further said, "The bank guard and others turned up, as the monkey tore up the bag and scattered Rs 60,000, which were recovered. We rushed to the ground floor to collect this money. We also tried offering edibles to the monkey to get back the bag."
Bansal soon went to the police with a complaint, however the cops did not know the right law to file a complaint. He is now planning to take the matter to SSP Agra Amit Pathak. Bansal who was in debt said, "Police at Nai Ki Mandi came for assistance, but the money could not be recovered. I am not aware of the legal provisions, but my hard earned savings are gone."
Monkey menace has been on rise in several parts of north India. Other than taking away food items, the animal also attacks people and even destroy crop. Recently CCTV footage from Supa Village, near Navsar in Gujarat showed a monkey pouncing at an unsuspecting person. Residents have at multiple times complained about the trouble the animal causes. Many people from Supa village said that they are even worried to leave their houses.
