On her comments in an Instagram post, 24-year-old Summers said, “In a moment where I intended to admire the courage of a few of my sisters, I said something that I now realize can be perceived as not respectful, and I apologize. My life, friendships, and career revolve around me being a compassionate and empathetic woman. I would never intend to hurt another. I am grateful for opportunities to speak with Nat, Miss Cambodia, and H’Hen, Miss Vietnam, directly about this experience. These are the moments that matter most to me.” Miss World Mexico Winner Vanessa Ponce de Leon Becomes First Mexican to Become Miss World 2018!

In the now-expired live Instagram video, Miss USA Rose Summers was heard saying for Sinat, “Miss Cambodia is here and doesn’t speak any English, and not a single person here speaks her language. Francesca [Miss Australia] said that it would be very isolating.” For H’Hen Nie, she said, “She’s so cute and she pretends to know so much English, and you ask her a question and after having a whole English conversation with her, she goes..” imitating her smile.
The beauty pageants across the universe uphold the unanimity of all the women coming together challenging the serotypes, displaying their talents, learning each other’s traditions and winning millions of hearts with their positive thoughts striving for a change. But incidents like the recent one really takes away the grace from these beauty contests. It is unclear whether Miss USA apologised after realising that her comment was hurtful or due to the criticisms. But our excitement for Miss Universe 2018 stays the same!
