The fast-food giant McDonald’s which has over the time gained popularity among the foodaholics cannot keep itself away from controversies. They have been involved in a number of lawsuits in the fast food chain’s history. Two McDonald’s customers in Florida, US are suing the fast-food giant for a hefty sum of $5 million (Rs. 33.86 crore approximately) because they were unfairly charged for cheese they did not want in their burgers. The recent is being added in the list of legal cases the restaurant have faced so far! The lawsuit has been filed on May 8 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida seeking class-action status.
Identified as Cynthia Kissner and Leonard Werner say that they had to pay for cheese they did not want on their Quarter Pounders. The restaurant earlier used to have four different Quarter Pounder options, two of which would come without chesses and cost less between 30 to 90 cents than those with cheese. But now, the restaurant does not display these options and the lawsuit says McDonald’s, “at some point,” stopped “separately displaying these products for purchase on menus, and currently lists the availability of Quarter Pounder with Cheese and Double Quarter Pounder with Cheese.” This has led the customers to forcibly pay more for two slices of cheese which they don’t want.
The suit claims, “customers have been forced, and continue to be overcharged for these products, by being forced to pay for two slices of cheese, which they do not want, order, or receive, to be able to purchase their desired product.”
The suit also reveals and alleges the giant as in the McDonald’s app, the advertisement for Quarter pounders is different. When one orders through the app, they can get Quarter Pounders, Double Quarter Pounders or value meals containing one of them with or without chees; for a lower price.
“We do not believe the claims in this lawsuit have legal merit,” McDonald's said in response through an email, reported USA Today. “The advertised Quarter Pounder burger comes with cheese. We try to accommodate our customers’ requests by allowing them to customize their orders, such as a Quarter Pounder with no cheese,” the mail added.
