A McDonald's ad for Ramzan has gone viral for its heartwarming gesture. The video celebrates the essence of the Islamic holy month of Ramadan observed with fasting by Muslims. After it aired in Singapore, many took to social praising the two-minute-long commercial. The video shows a young man waking up to have the pre-dawn meal (Sehri) with his family. He then gets ready for work and leaves on a bike. He is a McDonald's delivery person who takes food to people's houses.
Throughout the day he goes to people's doorstep with boxes of food, climbing a lot of stairs when elevators are out of order, walking long distances, helping someone whose car broke down. He does all the work while fasting. The man is also seen sharing a laugh with friends as they have their lunch. He politely refuses when he is offered food reminding them he is fasting, only to be returned a kind apology.
Tired, he is about to return home from work, when someone reminds him that it is almost time for the post-sunset meal (Iftar). Watch the video to know what happens after that:
Talking about the ad, McDonald's Singapore's senior director of marketing and digital innovation Agatha Yap told The Straits Times, "We're truly humbled and encouraged by the positive response received from our latest video. We wanted to celebrate Singapore's community spirit of human kindness, sharing and togetherness during this Ramadan month, and what better way than to do it through the lens of our McDelivery riders - who connect our brand with our customers, door to door."
She added saying, "It's our small way of appreciating those working tirelessly behind the scenes to deliver meals and enabling the bonding and sharing moments during this occasion." Ramazan started on May 17 and will continue for the next 30 days. Muslims fast from pre-dawn to sunset, contribute to charity among other works during this period.
