Sashi Cheliah, a prison guard with Indian origin from Adelaide has won MasterChef Australia 2018. Cheliah, a former prison guard earned the title by scoring 93 out of 100 points. His nearest competitor was Ben Borsht, who scored 77 out of 100. While both the contestants scored the same points in the second round, it was a lead of 16 points in the first round that led to Sashi's victory.

For the grand final challenge, both the men tried to recreate a complicated dessert by popular chef Heston Blumenthal which is served at his restaurant The Fat Duck. It was Sashi's chicken lemak dish and pineapple tart with lime ice cream dessert that cleared him in the semi-final round of the competition.

Cheliah who is originally from Madurai in Tamil Nadu said that he started cooking regularly only in the recent past. Sashi moved to Adelaide six years ago and worked as a police officer in Singapore 12 years. He later shifted to Australia. It was Facebook ads for MasterChef Australia Season 10 that made him given the auditions a try.

According to an interview with The Straits Times, he said that his dream is to open a restaurant serving Indian and South-east Asian cuisine. He also plans to hire ex-convicts there. Sashi is married to a nurse and has two sons aged 10 and 12 years. We hope Sashi's career as a chef reaches new heights and all his wishes come true!
