London, September 24: Visitors to the Royal Academy of Arts’ exhibition are having to squeeze between two nude models, a man and a woman, to enter it. The exhibition, curated by controversial artist Marina Abramović, opened on Saturday and will run till January 1, 2024. For those who may feel uncomfortable with this entrance arrangement, there is an alternative entrance provided.
The exhibition, running from September 23, 2023, to January 1, 2024, offers a retrospective of the artist's 50-year career, featuring sculptures, videos, installations, and performances. Notable works such as "The Artist is Present" will be reimagined using archive footage, while others will be performed by the next generation of artists trained in the Marina Abramovic method.
Andrea Tarsia, the Royal Academy's head of exhibitions told BBC “Entering between the two naked performers forces those with tickets into a confrontation between nakedness, and the gender, the sexuality, the desire.” Cody Fern Poses Nude on Bed in Latest Insta Post; Check Out American Horror Stories Actor’s Hot New Pics.
As per Royal Academy, the performance where a naked man and woman will be at the entrance is called 'Imponderabilia.'
There will be similar explicit pieces in the exhibition including 'Luminosity' featuring a naked woman on a bicycle saddle whilst hung in a crucifix pose. All attendees are however, banned from photographing and filming live performances. Abramovic has also ensured that a doctor, psychologist and nutritionist are on standby during the exhibition.
The 76-year-old artist known for her daring and boundary-pushing art, has made a name for herself through her thought-provoking performances. Her notable works include 'Rhythm 0', an interactive performance piece involving potentially dangerous objects, and a silent vigil at the Museum Of Modern Art in New York, where she sat quietly for three months.
The exhibition has elicited mixed reactions from critics, with The Times labelling it a 'remorseless show' and The Telegraph suggesting that Abramovic had 'egregiously lost her way'.
Due to the mature content of the exhibition, all attendees below the age of 16 should be accompanied by an adult ticket holder.
