Canine companions are truly a blessing. They are adorable, kind, loyal and will do anything to make their owners happy. This good boy, Zeego, has set another example as to why they are called man’s best friend. The golden retriever can do many things, such as switching the lights on and off, open and close doors, pick up what's fallen, etc. He is at the service of his owner, Matthew Lafleur, from Opelousas, Louisiana. Mathew was diagnosed with Friedreich's Ataxia when he was 11 years old. He struggled to perform everyday activities, but not anymore, as now he has Zeego who reportedly responds to more than 40 commands. The internet is in love with the pooch whose video with Matthew is now going viral. Pet Dog Wakes Up Families in Time to Save Them From Devastating Fire, Dies in Cylinder Blast,
Matthew's rare genetic disorder has no cure. He did not use a wheelchair until he entered college, as he realised he cannot walk around the campus to attend classes. According to KARK, two years ago, the 33-year-old applied to Canine Companions for Independence, a non-profit organisation that trains and provides assistance dogs. Finally, just two months ago, he brought Zeego home. The golden retriever has since been at his service 24*7 and will next help Matthew train for charity races on a recumbent tricycle, which puts riders in a laid-back reclining position. Friedreich's Ataxia (FA) is a disease that affects the nervous system and causes a progressive loss of movement. The symptoms typically emerge between ages five to 15 and cause difficulty in walking, poor balance, slurring speech and muscle weakness. Matthew's rare genetic disorder has bound him to the wheelchair. But he has gained some degree of independence thanks to having Zeego around. Hence the treatment focuses on providing victims with wheelchairs, walking aids or prostheses so they can retain independence.
