The incident took place at the Ellipse park, less than a mile away from the White House, in downtown Washington D.C. The video of the incident has been going viral on social media.
In the video, the man can be seen walking calmly inside the Ellipse park, near Washington Mall, with flames engulfing his body. Seconds later, an official of US Secret Service arrives with a fire extinguisher to douse the flames. US President Donald Trump was in the Oval Office when the man set himself on fire. His motive remains unknown. He was later transported to a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries. "At 12:22 p.m., officers from the United States Park Police and United States Secret Service responded to a report of an adult male who reportedly lit himself on fire on the Ellipse near 15th and Constitution Avenue," a spokesman for the National Park Service, which maintains the White House grounds, told DailyMail.com.
