After all these years after it became popular, the man who is the face of the GIF has come forward and revealed his identity. An American, Drew Scanlon has taken to the internet to reveal it was him in the iconic GIF. He is using his viral fame to raise money for National MS Society, a non-profit organisation based in New York working towards those with sclerosis, a disease that affects the immune system. Talking about the blinking guy GIF, Drew Scanlon tweeted saying, "Hi Internet! I'm Drew and THIS IS MY FACE. If this GIF has ever brought you joy in the past, I humbly ask you to consider making a donation to the National MS Society. It would mean a lot to me and to those I know affected by the disease!"
The tweet was well received by the internet with people asking more about her whereabouts. Twitterati was also quick to make donations to the National MS Society. Talking to The Washington Post about his meme, he said, "I'd never used the meme before because I felt like I didn't own it. The Internet made it and found this funny way to use it." Meanwhile, some said that they were surprised to learn that the Blinking Guy was Drew as he didn't look anything like he does in the meme. On his fundraising page, he wrote, "If a fraction of those who have seen my goofy face donated to MS research, I have a feeling we could kick this thing in no time!" He has raised over $25,600 currently.
