Ludhiana NGO's Food Truck Neki Di Gaddi Collects And Distributes Excess Food to Poor in The City!
The organisation has a helpline number on which people can call if they have leftover food.
A food truck launched by a Ludhiana NGO is not just feeding the needy but also reducing food wastage in the city. Ludhiana based NGO, Ek Noor Sewa Kendra's truck 'Neki Di Gaddi' collects excess food from different events and functions in the city and reaches it unto the deprived.
They go to marriage functions and other parties which end late in the night, pick up food in their truck and send to the NGO's community kitchen in Dhuri Lines. From there the food is further transported to places including railway stations and hospitals where it is distributed among the needy people. The organisation has a helpline number on which people can call if they have leftover food. They started the truck food programme on Saturday from railway station.
Speaking to Latestly, Neki Di Gaddi Supervisor, Hariom Jain said that they bought the vehicle after a well-wisher gave them a few lakhs. He said, "We added some more money to it and bought the truck." Thereafter they hired a driver and began the project. Jain said, "Surplus food at wedding generally gets wasted, so we decided on an organised way to deliver it to people in need."
Currently, they do the deliveries at the earliest not wanting considering the shelf life of the food. The NGO is planning to buy refrigerators to store food in the future. Those who want to give away excess food can call on their helpline number (9907560000). Their service is limited to Ludhiana MC.
Jain said the NGO has different sections handling various projects. They give books and other stationaries children require in school. The NGO also gives clothes to people in need at just Rs 20.
